The Four Things That Set the Price
1. The yacht
Size drives everything else: build quality, crew size, and above all fuel burn. Our Azimut 72 Orca V is a 22-metre motor yacht with twin 1000 HP engines, four cabins, Seakeeper stabilisers, air conditioning throughout and a full crew. The Ferretti Altura 50 offers the same character in a smaller, more economical package. The Afros is a fast day boat for up to 10 guests. Three genuinely different day rates, because they are three genuinely different days.
2. The length of the charter
Half-day cruises run around 5 hours, full days around 8, and multiday charters are priced per day with overnight berthing added. The half-day is not simply half the price of the full day: crew, preparation, cleaning and port procedures are the same either way, so the full day is almost always the better value per hour on the water.
3. The itinerary
Distance means fuel, and fuel is the largest variable cost in motor yachting. A relaxed cruise around the Messinian Gulf with a long lunch at anchor burns a fraction of what a run to Voidokilia and back does — roughly 40 nautical miles each way around Cape Akritas. Both are excellent days. They are not the same quote.
4. What you add on board
The yacht and crew are the platform. Beyond that, catering with a private chef, a professional bartender, a DJ, water sports equipment such as jet ski, water ski, wakeboard and tubes, or a VIP land transfer are all optional and priced separately. Some guests want the full production. Others want good coffee, a cold bottle of white and nobody talking to them until 16:00.

A full-day private charter shared between eight or ten guests puts the cost per person within reach of a family day out with lunch — and what it buys is not comparable: a private vessel with no other guests, an itinerary you set, a crew looking after your group alone, a swim platform whenever you want it, real bathrooms, shade, air conditioning and a route that changes if you feel like changing it.
For groups of six or more, the private charter usually stops being the luxury option and starts being the sensible one.
Five Questions to Ask Before You Compare Any Two Quotes
- Is fuel included, or billed by consumption afterwards? This single line can move a final invoice substantially.
- Does the price include the crew? On some listings the skipper is an extra daily charge.
- Are taxes and port fees inside the figure?
- How many guests does the price actually cover, and what is the legal capacity?
- What happens if the weather turns? Ask how the operator handles cancellation or rescheduling before you book, not on the morning.
